Project description

The BioUniversity - Parma project aims to document the biodiversity present within the areas belonging to the University of Parma. This project adopts a participatory approach, typical of Citizen Science, which encourages collaboration between the University's researchers and volunteer citizens. Active community participation is fundamental to collecting data on local flora and fauna, contributing to a detailed picture of biodiversity across our University's sites. Through this initiative, the University of Parma intends to promote environmental awareness and the conservation of natural resources, valuing the contribution of both the academic community (Students, Researchers, and Technical-Administrative Staff) and citizens.

BioUniversity – Parma is part of the broader EUGREEN BioUNIVERSITY project, which brings together all the individual projects of the EUGREEN ALLIANCE partners, who can use BioUniversity – Parma as a model.

Objectives

  • To document the biodiversity of the University's green areas through observations and scientific data collection by citizens.
  • To foster collaboration among all members of the UNIPR university community (researchers, students, and technical-administrative staff) and between this community and wider society.
  • To promote awareness and active participation in the conservation of local biodiversity.

How to participate

Participants can contribute by uploading their observations of plants, animals, and other organisms found within UNIPR's areas, joining the BioUniversity – Parma project on the iNaturalist platform. Researchers from the University of Parma will be responsible for validating the collected data. Each observation will contribute to a better understanding of local biodiversity and will support the conservation initiatives of the University of Parma.
